About me
Hi, I'm Russel.
I'm Russel Daniel Paul, a fourth year computer engineering student in Mumbai. I work mostly with React, Next.js and Node, and I've been working on IoT dashboards at Technode and NetstellarIOT.
That has meant everything from a React and Java dashboard to queues for incoming device data, and more recently an MQTT dashboard running in Docker on a VPS. My portfolio has the work details.
I use Arch with Hyprland. Getting it set up took an entire day, which was apparently not enough to put me off it. There's a whole post about that on here.
Things I've made
Some web apps, some desktop tools. A few of them are below.
Multi Codex
A desktop app for keeping Codex accounts, logins and workspaces separate.
React / TypeScript / Rust / Tauri / Vite
Varte
An app and CLI for keeping environment files with their GitHub repos. Push a file, pull it on another machine, and keep it out of Git.
React / Node.js / Firebase / Cloudflare Workers
HyprTrack
A desktop app that keeps track of which apps I use on Hyprland. The data stays on my machine in a local SQLite database.
Tauri / React / Python / SQLite
Bible Wordle
A word game built around words from the Bible. Same idea as Wordle, different vocabulary.
React / JavaScript / CSS
The rest is on my GitHub.
Outside of that
Football was the reason I used to run, and running was usually the punishment. Somehow it became the thing I started waking up early for. I've written about that switch too.
I play guitar, listen to a lot of music, and have watched enough sitcoms to have opinions about them. Supernatural alone took up a fairly unreasonable part of my lockdown.
I like hill stations as well. If you want a break from the tech posts, there's a Munnar post on here.
Why I started writing
I kept forgetting things I wanted to remember. Thoughts, stories, the things that happened while I was figuring something out. Writing them down seemed like a better plan than trusting my memory.
Some posts are about Linux or running. Some are just me trying to work out what I think. Writing for people to read wasn't really the point when I started this, but if someone reads one and relates to it, I call that a W.
